"Move"

This is a song & video I commissioned for Move PGH to depict the numerous ways to get around Pittsburgh with different types of shared mobility now available.

I worked with the popular hip hop artist Benji (who hails from the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Homewood) to develop the theme for the lyrics. The aim was to entertain and educate at the same time. I was inspired by the song "Rasputin" by Boney M, which is an unbelievably catchy tune from 1978 about a truly bizarre and fascinating figure in Russian history. Even if you have no interest in history, you could walk away from listening to that song with some new knowledge.

So I wanted to work with a local artist to develop a song about mobility that could get stuck in your head and that you could access later from the Catchy Song Cabinets / Recesses of your brain. I'd heard Benji a bit before but it was after the enthusiastic recommendation from Jack D at the PDP that I got in touch with him and the rest is... mobility.

GROAN, I'm sorry!

What a joy it was to work with Benji and his absolutely stellar manager DJ! This was by far the most fun I had in my role at Move PGH. We were ready to move beyond the song Benji had created, so I hired the talented Black-owned firm "Colours Creative" to create the accompanying video. They were a delight to work with -- I smiled so much my face still hurts. Hire them for your next project!
